| Nellie Etta was the ninth child of
her family, born on Ralston Creek which is now a part of Arvada, Colorado.
By 1880, the family had resettled at Big Thompson (present day Loveland), in
Larimer County, Colorado.
Nellie and William
married in 1897, and by 1906 had moved into the house Nellie would call home
for over 27 years. (This may in fact be longer, however we do not have
access to more recent directories at this time.) The 1922 Denver City
Directory indicates Nellie was a dressmaker - a fact that is repeated for
every directory reviewed through 1933 (the most recent reviewed).
Although divorced in 1932, the 1930 census indicates Nellie was then the Head
of Household, with daughter
Willetta.
Nellie is shown in a photograph published in "Over Hill and Vale,
History of Larimer County; in the Evening Shadows of Colorado's Longs Peak",
by Harold Marion Dunning, Vol II, where she is listed and shown as member of
"Special Drill Team and Officers of Pinewood Camp, Loveland Colorado who took
part in the Barthel Meeting, in Greeley Colorado in June 1940."
The Loveland Museum has a wonderful picture of Nellie at the wheel of the
first car in Loveland.
Nellie was survived by her two children, and is buried near her parents in
Lakeside Cemetery, Loveland, Larimer Co., Colorado.
